I've only recently discovered fresh figs - I literally don't know how I made it this far in life without having one, but I somehow I did - and have developed quite a serious addiction (I guess it could be worse).
Figs are in season at the moment so I'm putting them in and on just about everything - I'm loving them sliced on toast with a thick spread of almond butter and on top of oat porridge, but my favourite use for them thus far is in a smoothie for breakfast.
- 1 cup plant-based milk
- A few ice cubes
- ½ tsp cinnamon plus a little extra to garnish
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- 2 large fresh figs or 3 smaller figs (aim for about 150g) – reserve a slice to garnish
- 1 frozen or fresh banana
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tsp raw cacao nibs
- 2 tsp chia seeds
- Place all ingredients in a high speed blender and turn up the speed to high until it’s well combined
- Top with a slice of fresh fig and a little extra cinnamon
